The cotton was hand woven, which is why the cloth is divided into 3 hand stitched patterns.<\/p>\n<p>This particular cloth vintage dark indigo katazome measures 200cm x 140cm and is an unusual repeat floral peony flower patter. The cloth is in excellent condition and dark indigo with a very clear print pattern showing the skill of an indigo master who took great pride in their work.<\/p>\n<p>There are 2 main types of antique indigo katazome cloth:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Square: \u2018Wrap cloths\u2019 used to store and carry personal items were folded at the corners and tied together. A symbolic silk flying bat, sewn in one corner was a\u00a0 sign of prestige<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Rectangular: these were traditionally bed covers, often given as wedding presents or for children\u2019s bedding.
