John Abbate<\/h3>\n

American born, John began designing stone furniture for his family business, Craftsman Masonry, back in his native Florida before embarking on a career in Store Design and Visual Merchandising in NYC, Milan, Paris, Brussels, London and now Shanghai.<\/p>\n

John has worked for Ralph Lauren and was Head of Global VI for Alfred Dunhill for a combined 20 years, designing stores, furniture, lounge interiors, visual merchandising and sourcing antiques for these brands\u2019 global retail stores and events. Since 2011 he started his own agency, JOHN ABBATE STUDIO, servicing the local Chinese market with retail brand strategy, concept development and creation. Joining Design Overlay in 2013 as Creative Director he continued to be inspired by Shanghai and creates R-incarnation furniture from the cities history with a contemporary take on the furniture he restores and designs.<\/p>\n

Each original piece takes more time to restore and is costly making new but that is the attention needed to bring these pieces of unique furniture back to life. Like restoring a heritage building, it is more than just a building but part of our local history and we take pride in our craftsmanship then and now.<\/p>\n

The original historical pieces are one of a kind and priced accordingly but any quantity of replicas can be custom made in the same design, spirit, finishes and fabrics as the originals but more attractively priced.<\/p>\n

A new contemporary collection is in the works that uses the historic pieces and their restoration process, as inspiration.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Minna Hu<\/h2>\n

Follows the tradition with simple and pure heart. Hiking to secluded areas of China, Zurner searches for the source of traditional handcrafts and original technique. Try their best to help save and develop these ancient manual skills and lives of minority people. They design the form & function that are not limited to the ethnic art, delivering fine products with a traditional handmade and natural lifestyle. Their accessories are contemporary and functional.<\/p>\n

Losing her heart to Eastern Culture, seeking cultural heritage & development. Leaving footprints over mountain villages, alone\u2026This is Minna!<\/p>\n

The beautiful features of ancient handcrafts & pure natural material fabric are the statements from nature. The tremendous patterns of warp and weft on hand loomed fabric present the developments of human wisdom over generations.<\/p>\n

In pursuit of developing the natural mix and match of Ethnic cultural elements, modern lives & applying the design into ornament objects in life, she wishes her work will develop a true love of ethnic culture, life & inspiration from handcrafts.<\/p>\n
